Safety Most Important Factor When Choosing A Hospital for Labor and Delivery
When 200 women of childbearing age were asked what was most important to them when choosing a hospital for labor and delivery, the vast majority placed one aspect over all others: safety. In fact, safety was rated more important than patient satisfaction reviews, location, and posh birthing rooms. Additionally, the women surveyed stated if a hospital was investing in technology to help nurses identify issues during childbirth, they would be very likely to consider that hospital over others.
That’s something L&D managers should keep in mind when determining where to invest their time and money. Particularly since mothers are usually the key healthcare decision-makers in the home (80% of all healthcare decisions in the U.S. are made by women). The experience they have during childbirth can determine which hospital the entire family uses now and in the future.
90% of women said a decision about where to have a baby would be positively influenced by a hospital’s investment in technology that helps nurses identify and address issues during childbirth.
