Webinar: The Joint Commission Releases Baby Naming Convention,
Distinct Newborn Identification
On February 21st, Dr. Alana McGolrick, DNP, RNC-OB, C-EFM, Chief Nursing Officer at PeriGen and Lori Matich MSN RN, Nurse Manager of Pediatrics and NICU at Cleveland Clinic Martin Health, presented in a free webinar on the new distinct newborn identification requirement, effective January 1, 2019.
The distinct newborn identification requirement (National Patient Safety Goal: NPSG.01.01.01) will be applicable to all Joint Commission-accredited hospitals and critical access hospitals that provide labor and delivery services. The new requirement is designed to improve the quality and safety of care for newborns during their hospital stay following delivery. The Joint Commission has created a new requirement with the goal of providing more distinguishable naming methods for this vulnerable population.
