The second episode of Foundations in Perinatal Care: From Basics to Best Practice is here! Designed to reinforce essential skills for both new and experienced L&D nurses, this episode will take a deep dive into the physiologic foundations of fetal monitoring.

Led by nationally recognized expert Heather Walker, this one‑hour session will guide learners through how uterine activity, placental perfusion, and fetal neurologic regulation work together to shape the patterns seen on the monitor.

Join us for an immersive learning experience that bridges physiology and interpretation — helping clinicians understand not just what the tracing shows, but why.

Key topics will include:

  • How uterine contractions affect placental blood flow and fetal oxygenation
  • The physiologic meaning of baseline, variability, accelerations, and decelerations
  • The impact of maternal status on fetal response
  • A systematic framework for integrating uterine activity and fetal heart rate assessment
