Rebecca Cypher Joins PeriGen as Chief Nursing Officer

Accomplished perinatal nurse brings 25 years’ military, civilian, AWHONN leadership and clinical research experience  
 

PRINCETON, New Jersey ─ Sept. 30, 2013 PeriGen, the global leader in applying real-time clinical decision support to perinatal systems, today announced that Rebecca Cypher, MSN, PNNP, has been appointed its Chief Nursing Officer.

“Over the past year, we’ve successfully honed and executed our go-to-market strategy on a path to dramatic growth in the U.S. We’re very fortunate to have Rebecca join the PeriGen executive team at such a pivotal time of success,” said Matthew Sappern, CEO of PeriGen. “Rebecca’s breadth of hands-on, practical obstetrical knowledge and professional affiliations will serve us well focusing on the practical aspects of the labor and delivery room. We’ll look to her guidance where our patented, evidenced-based fetal surveillance technologies systems will have the most impact on OB care and safety.”

A perinatal nurse practitioner, Cypher brings to PeriGen more than 25 years’ military and civilian experience that includes leadership roles spanning clinical, academic, hospital and health system, and advanced practice environments. She is currently the perinatal clinical specialist at a tertiary care facility in the Pacific Northwest working in the Maternal-Fetal Division, caring for high risk obstetric patients and their families. Cypher retired from the U.S. Air Force in 2008 after serving two decades of active duty service including a deployment to Iraq for Operation Iraqi Freedom and as the perinatal nursing consultant to the Air Force Surgeon General.

Cypher has held numerous leadership positions in the Association of Women’s Health, Obstetric and Neonatal Nurses (AWHONN) including chapter leader, section chair and secretary treasurer for the Armed Forces Section.  Currently, she is serving her second term on AWHONN’s national board of directors. Cypher has been a member of numerous AWHONN committees, most notably the revision committees for the Intermediate and Advanced Fetal Monitoring programs. In addition to AWHONN, Cypher has volunteered her time with the Alaska, Texas and Washington chapters of the March of Dimes. She currently serves on the March of Dimes South Puget Sound board of directors.

Cypher has lectured nationally on a variety of obstetrical (OB) topics including fetal monitoring, legal issues and high-risk conditions in pregnancy. She has conducted clinical research with physician and nurse colleagues on a variety of OB topics and has written or co-authored several peer reviewed articles and book chapters. She serves on the editorial board for the Journal of Perinatal and Neonatal Nursing.

Cypher earned her bachelor of science degree in nursing from Eastern Michigan University and a master of science degree in nursing with a perinatal nurse practitioner specialization from Regis University in Denver, Colo.

Cypher, along with Samantha Thomas, MSN, RNC-OB, will present a pre-conference workshop titled Fetal Heart Monitoring: Advance Concepts and Case Studies” at the AWHONN Washington fall pre-conference event  Oct. 27-28.  In 2014, she begins lecturing for the Professional Education Center (PEC) offering the two-day course titled “Antepartum Care Examined: Facing Contemporary OB Challenges.”
